My son was going off to law school and I was incredibly proud of him, but upset that he would be a little farther away than I would’ve liked. We live in rural western Massachusetts and he was accepted to the prestigious Boston College Law School. I will never forget the day I dropped him off at his new home, right in the center of Newton. Jimmy was living with three other law students who were in their second and third years in school. As soon as we pulled up, his roommate Tom asked him if he knew any plumbers in Newton MA. Jimmy responded with the logical question, “Why?” to which Tom said, “Aren’t you from Western Mass? We want his number on speed dial in case the pipes freeze in the winter.” At least I knew that three lawyers could put their heads together and get things done and drove off feeling comfortable and confident about this new step in his life.
